Plant Parent Quick Tips

Tip #1

  • A Clean Plant is a Happy Plant. Give your houseplants a nice dust or a wipe down with a damp cloth. It’s always good idea to clean those dusty leaves.

Tip #2

  • Open a window and maybe leave it open especially in spring and summer. Air circulation and increased light, and the temperature variation between day time and night time will really improve your plants.

Tip #3

  • Take it outside when it’s raining. Indoor plants LOVE getting a good soaking on a nice moody rainy Melbourne day.

Tip #4

  • Place plants together to increase humidity. By grouping plants together, they will increase their own humidity, plants transpire water through their leaves, so by grouping them closely together, they’ll create their own micro climate.

Tip #5

  • Try to replicate your plant’s native habitat. This includes the type of potting mix you buy, the humidity, temperature, water and sunlight you give your plant.

Tip #6

  • Typically houseplants need to be repotted every 12 to 18 months, depending on how they are growing. Whilst some slower growing varieties can stay in the same pot for years. It is best to still refresh their soil every 12 to 18 months.

Tip #7

  • Early spring is an ideal time to repot your houseplant.

Tip #8

  • Fertilize your houseplants. Fertilizer replaces essential nutrients your soil will eventually lose over time. Whilst plants do make their own food via photosynthesis, fertilizer helps boost them.

Tip #9

  • Dilute your fertilizer. It’s always best to under-fertilize than over-fertilize
